Creative projects often require one to rack focus between micro and macro perspectives – we must relish in detail, but never lose sight of the bigger picture. This is especially true of experiential media where elements must work together to create the full effect.
The Shackleton experience at Burning Man was a simple yet delightful concept – an ice-cold dance party in the blazing heat of the desert. At it’s core, Shackleton was a “reefer” – a refrigerated semi-trailer. To elevate and beatify this experience we applied a narrative overlay based on the doomed Antarctic expedition of the eponymous explorer.
I created a range of media to support the project – from 8-screen synchronized video “portholes” to signage and accompanying schwag. Every element was designed to support the final vision. I did extensive research and reading on the Shackleton Expedition so I could tie everything together with the same story threads.
